No one likes to be deceived.  It feels like betrayal.  We often think if they loved us they would tell us the truth.  How dare “they”.  They?

Who is the father of lies?  Who wants to see us broken and beat up? Who wants us to be so lost in our own problems that we are unable to commune with the One who made us?  I am sure you can see where I am going with this.  The devil prowls around searching for one to devour.  1 Peter 5:8 tells us. “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

I think that sounds scary.  Don’t you?  Does is sound hopeless?  Do you feel defeated?  Are we hopeless and destined to be deceived?  On the contrary we are meant to be victorious.  We are called to put on the armor of God.

When we have the protection of truth, faith, salvation and the sword of the Spirit we are strong. Not strong in our own power but in the power of the Lord.  He is the one mighty to save.

We are not fighting against flesh and blood but against the power of the dark world.  What a peace!  What a joy to know that we don’t have to go it alone.  We can have clarity to see that the problems we have with our so called enemies are not really about them.  The devil tries to use anyone and everyone to make us feel angry, alone and confused.

Be strong in the Lord and with his help you can extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one.

You will see clearly.  You can be strong.  You can be confident that you know the truth.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God,so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powersof this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:10-17
