Who controls your life, your path and your very destiny?  Is it you?

Do you feel you need to have it all together? Do you worry late at night about your choices? What you did, what you said and who you said it to?

Do you worry about money?  Will there be enough money at the end of the month— or more month left at the end of your money?

Scary isn’t it?  I don’t know about you but I don’t want that kind of power in my life.  I don’t want the responsibility. I don’t want my life and the life of my family in my hands.  Oh I know— I would try my best.  I would love with all my might.  I might swear that I would never let them down.

I ask again…Do you have that kind of control?  No? Me neither!  Well then, I have excellent news for you.  You don’t hold the power of life and death in your hands.  You can’t add a single hour to your life.  You can’t control tomorrow.

Can I beg of you to let go of the grasp you have on your life?  Can you give what seems like your control up to the one who does have the power?  The one who can control life and death, time and space and the destinies of all of us.  Best of all…he loves you too!  He wants to give you life, eternal life.

Relinquish control.  You don’t really have it after all.

Matthew 6:25-34  NIV

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

  1. This devotional is a great reminder. God is in control – not me! So I turn to my Father each day and renew my heart and mind in His Word… in His presence. I intentionally lay my cares before Him and ask Him to create a clean heart within me, that I will not sin…. that I will not worry about these things, but rather, trust Him. Then lean on Him when I find myself feeling the responsibility to control them still. It’s a day by day, hour by hour choice that I must make. As I journal my prayers, laying my cares before Him, my faith is built even more as I ‘look back’ and see what God has done. I see that His way is best and He alone knows the way through the whirlwind of life.
